A beautiful lawn starts with professional sod installation. Tropical Maintenance installs sod for new construction, renovations, and complete yard replacements across Southwest Florida. Our grading equipment ensures a properly prepared base — which is the difference between sod that thrives and sod that fails. From single residential lots to multi-acre commercial developments, we handle sod installation at any scale.
Our sod installation services include complete soil grading and preparation, sod variety selection guidance, professional sod laying and rolling, large-scale commercial sod installation, top-dressing and soil amendment, irrigation coordination for establishment, and post-installation care guidance. We install St. Augustine (Floratam, Palmetto, CitraBlue), Bahia, Zoysia (Empire, Geo), and Bermuda grass varieties.
**Residential:** New home yards, complete lawn renovation, damaged lawn replacement, sod around new pools, landscaping project finishes.
**Commercial:** HOA common areas, subdivision model homes, commercial property finishing, sports field turfing, park and municipal areas, erosion control.
Sod installation in Southwest Florida typically costs $1.00-$2.50 per square foot installed, including soil preparation, sod, and laying. Factors include sod variety (St. Augustine costs more than Bahia), site grading needs, and project size. Volume discounts apply to larger projects.
St. Augustine (Floratam or CitraBlue) is the most popular and performs well in full sun to partial shade. Bahia is drought-tolerant and lower maintenance, ideal for large areas. Zoysia (Empire) handles shade and traffic well. We’ll recommend the right variety for your sun exposure, use, and maintenance preferences.
Sod can be installed year-round in Southwest Florida, but the rainy season (June-September) offers natural watering that helps establishment. Spring (March-May) is also excellent. Winter installation works fine with proper irrigation. We adjust our preparation and watering recommendations for the season.
Stay off new sod for the first 2-3 weeks to allow roots to establish. Light foot traffic is usually fine after 3 weeks. Wait 4-6 weeks before mowing. We provide detailed care instructions with every installation.
